How to have a useful wedding food conversation

Talk about how you want guests to feel before choosing a service format.

A generous grazing table arranged for guests

Food decisions become simpler when they begin with people and timing rather than a long list of dishes.

Describe the atmosphere

Do you imagine everyone sitting down together, moving freely through a buffet, sharing food at the table or combining several styles across the day? Each creates a different rhythm and uses the room differently.

At Lower Lode, the agreed format needs to work with your numbers, hall layout, speeches, room turns and evening plans. A generous service can still feel relaxed; an informal format still needs careful logistics.

Map hunger across the day

Write down when guests arrive, when the ceremony ends, when the main meal starts and how late the celebration continues. Consider children, people travelling a long way and evening guests joining after the main meal.

This helps you decide whether welcome food, canapés, a main meal, evening food or breakfast plans for the following morning are useful. You may not need every element.

Gather dietary information carefully

Ask guests about allergies, intolerances, religious requirements and other dietary needs by a clear deadline. Avoid treating a serious allergy as a preference.

Share the information with the venue in the format they request. Ask what can be accommodated, how cross-contamination risks are managed and whether a guest with a severe allergy should speak directly with the food team.

The Food Standards Agency record currently gives Lower Lode Inn a food-hygiene rating of 5, with a published inspection date of 12 June 2024. That public record is useful context, but individual allergy questions still need a specific answer.

Include drinkers and non-drinkers equally

Plan appealing non-alcoholic choices for arrival, the meal and toasts. Discuss bar arrangements, wine or alternatives, water on tables and how guests obtain drinks during speeches or music.

Products and bar terms can change, so your written proposal should confirm the arrangements for your date.
