A viewing is not an exam and you do not need a perfect spreadsheet. It is a chance to understand how a place feels and whether the practical experience supports that feeling.

Before you arrive

Bring an approximate ceremony, meal and evening guest count. Note your preferred date or season, whether you need a civil ceremony on-site, and the two or three features that matter most.

Tell the venue about known mobility, sensory or dietary needs before the visit. That gives the team a chance to prepare accurate answers and arrange access to relevant areas.

Follow the guest route

Begin where a guest would park or be dropped off. Walk to the ceremony room, toilets, drinks area, dining space, bar and evening area. If some guests will stay, continue to the rooms or campsite route.

Notice surfaces, gradients, thresholds, lighting and distances. Ask where a quiet moment might be possible and how a wheelchair user or guest with limited stamina would experience each transition.

Look at both weather plans

The River Severn and lawn are a special part of Lower Lode, but a good plan does not depend on a dry day. Ask where arrival drinks and photographs move if weather or ground conditions make outside use unsuitable.

River conditions can occasionally affect access to the venue. Ask how updates are communicated and make sure your guest information includes a sensible route and contact number.

Ask about the room in motion

If one hall will hold a ceremony, meal and evening party, ask how each change happens. Who moves furniture? Where do guests go? How much time is needed? Where will a band, DJ or cake sit without constricting an accessible route?

Capacities depend on layout. Ask to see the room arranged for numbers similar to yours, or a plan that shows the usable space.

Understand what happens next

Ask what information the venue needs before it prepares a proposal, how long that normally takes and how long a date can be held. The written proposal and booking terms should confirm inclusions, payment stages, cancellation terms and responsibilities.

The registrar is arranged separately through Gloucestershire Registration Service. Check registrar availability before making commitments that depend on a particular ceremony time.
